Is COVID-19 news making you feel a bit flat?! Well, let’s make some music! Together we can combat the Corona blues and social isolation and do something inclusive and fun together.

isoChoir is a virtual choir, open to all, led by James Hawkins.

It is run every week at 8:00-9:30pm on Fridays via Zoom, whilst we are all in a period of lock down!

The song for Friday 22nd May will be Disco 2000 by Pulp.

We now have seven video and sound recordings since lock-down started and this will be week 9 – so we have another two ‘in production’!  Watch Here Comes The Sun and Brave! Please watch and share.

Our mission is to brighten up your week and give singers a chance to learn a new song and get singing again, whilst regular choirs are shut down.

isoChoir is different because Jim is taking the week’s song and helping members to record themselves singing it, then mixing all the voices together to create a virtual choir recording each week. See how it’s done here.

Book your place in isoChoir now and you’ll receive:

  • Song lyrics, music score and backing track on Thursday evening.
  • A live teaching on Friday evening at 8pm – 9:30pm via Zoom
  • A special backing track and recording instructions to contribute your voice to a new mass recording of the song.

Let’s keep singing together even when choirs can’t be together.

Price £6 per device pay as you go, or £20 per month during lock down, so families can all sing together!

We’d love to hear your feedback. Please leave a post on our Facebook page here.

James Hawkins Jim Hawkins

Jim says: This will be live online teaching direct to you on your device, led by me at my piano.

The idea is that we will use technology to learn harmony parts in a ‘virtual rehearsal room’, which is a lot of fun! Afterwards you can record your vocal performance and contribute to a final group recording professionally mixed and balanced in my studio.  Unlike the real world, this will mean you will be able to hear back your performance!  I’ll teach you how to make an effective recording when we get to that point.

What you will experience

  • You will hear me clearly and be able to sing back along with me.
  • You will see a gallery of faces of all the people participating in the session.
  • You won’t be able to hear everyone at the same time singing however – there is no technology available yet that can reduce what is called the latency delay and varied connectivity or any feedback loop caused by your microphone hearing its own speaker and re-amplifying itself.

IMPORTANT: I will be online half an hour early (7:30pm) ahead of the session to help those who need a hand getting to grips with Zoom video conferencing. You’ll get a zoom link as soon as you register and we will email everything out to you as well the day before.
