How do you bring people together who can’t be in the same room?

The Cystic Fibrosis Trust wanted to raise awareness of the cross-contamination risk to life that exists between sufferers of the life-limiting condition.

The charity approached James Hawkins Music with the desire to join in with our 2017 Choirs With Purpose album. We came up with the idea of a virtual choir, using technology (and a lot of disinfectant cleaning product) to record the young singers one by one in our studio to create a multi-voice sound and interactive community. It was a wonderful way for the group to share the difficulty of being solo CF sufferers. James’ song choice was just perfect to show their virutal support and solidarity with one another.

Two documentary maker teams picked up on the story and BBC Ouch posted a video online, followed by BBC Radio 4 feature. These drew 1.2 million people overnight to watch the video. The Cystic Fibrosis Trust benefited from these new assets and have been able to use them to explain really clearly about CF cross contamination and its impact on their work.
